MORTL is both a guidance layer and a lightweight organization layer. Public resources explain what to do. Optional accounts save progress, planning information, files, and wishes. MORTL is not a password manager, financial institution, medical record system, or substitute for a professional’s secure portal.

The operating rules
Articles, state guides, the someone-just-died path, the terminal-diagnosis path, the provider directory, and many tools do not require an account.
An account is required for cross-device checklist progress, saved planning data, document uploads, Premium tools, and family sharing.
MORTL does not need Social Security numbers, passwords, full financial account numbers, health records, or confidential case details for its standard service.
Family sharing is read-only, limited to five active recipients, expires after 90 days, and can be revoked. Anyone with the link can read the shared fields.
What the product does today
Signed-in features can save checklist progress, contacts, wishes, planning answers, and uploaded documents. Access to owner features is tied to the signed-in account. Account holders can request access, correction, or deletion through MORTL’s privacy process.
The owner chooses the recipient and creates the link. The shared view is read-only and limited to specific funeral wishes, trusted contacts, playlist items, and checklist progress. Links expire after 90 days and can be revoked. The link is a bearer credential, so anyone who receives it can see the shared fields.
MORTL accepts a limited set of document and image formats, checks the uploaded file type, and enforces a 25 MB file limit. Public document-file sharing is disabled. The owner can download or delete the file while signed in.
Optional analytics and advertising measurement storage are denied by default. Visitors can reject optional measurement, choose categories separately, and change the decision through Privacy Choices. Advertising personalization remains disabled.

Do not enter Social Security numbers, passwords, complete financial account numbers, health records, or confidential details about a specific legal matter into MORTL forms, search, or Ask MORTL. Use the secure channel provided by the relevant professional or institution.
A Premium account owner can create a read-only link for up to five people. The link exposes only the planning fields listed for the shared view, works for 90 days, and can be revoked. Anyone who has the link can see that shared view, so the owner must send it only to a trusted person.
No. Public document-vault sharing is currently disabled. The signed-in owner can upload, download, and delete supported files, but MORTL does not currently serve those files through public share links.
No. MORTL states that it does not sell personal data, does not use personalized advertising, and does not share information submitted to MORTL with advertisers. Optional analytics and advertising measurement storage are denied by default until a visitor chooses otherwise.
