Community
Death touches everyone. These are stories from people who've been through it. The grief, the paperwork, the unexpected moments of grace. Shared so others feel less alone.
How this works
You submit
Write your story in your own words. Any length, any format. We ask for your name and email. Neither is required to be public.
We review
Every submission is read by a human editor. We check for consent, accuracy, and that it meets our community standards. This takes 3–7 days.
We publish
If approved, we'll email you before publishing. We may lightly edit for clarity. You can request changes or withdraw consent at any time.
Stories are shared with consent. We do not share your email address. You may request removal at any time by emailing stories@mortl.com.
About Sharing
Anyone. Grief has no credential requirement. Whether you're two weeks past a death or twenty years, whether it was a parent, a partner, a friend, or a patient, if the experience taught you something someone else needs to hear, it belongs here.
No. We care that it's true, not that it's polished. Fragments, run-ons, and stories that trail off are all fine; we edit lightly for length and clarity and never to sand off the honest parts. The rawness is usually the point.
Yes. Use a first name, initials, or full anonymity. We will never publish identifying details you didn't choose to share, and you can ask us to take a published story down at any time.
The unglamorous true ones. Caregiving that broke you and rebuilt you. The funeral that went wrong, or unexpectedly right. What the first year actually felt like versus what people said it would. The thing you wish someone had told you before the phone rang. If you've searched for a story like yours and couldn't find it, write that one.
A human reads it. If we want to publish, we edit for length and clarity without changing your meaning, and nothing goes live with details you asked us to hold back. We can't publish everything we receive, but everything we receive gets read.
