Provider Review Policy

Last updated: July 2026

MORTL includes provider listings to help users find professionals and services that may be relevant to death planning, estate administration, grief support, funeral planning, and related needs.

A listing in the MORTL directory is not a recommendation, endorsement, guarantee, or referral.

How providers are listed today

Providers in the MORTL directory come from public sources and provider submissions. Before a listing goes live, MORTL checks the provider's phone and address against the provider's own website and writes the listing description from that site. A provider without a working website is not listed.

A listing in the MORTL directory is not a recommendation, endorsement, guarantee, or referral.

What MORTL verifies, and what it does not

MORTL verifies identity and contact information: the provider's phone and address, checked against the provider's own website.

MORTL does not verify licenses, disciplinary history, availability, or quality of service.

MORTL does not guarantee that any listed provider is licensed, insured, accepting new clients, appropriately qualified, or in good standing when you contact them.

Provider information can change after a listing is added.

Before hiring a provider

Before hiring any provider, you should verify credentials directly. Depending on the provider type, this may include:

• Checking license status with the appropriate state licensing board • Confirming insurance, bonding, or credentials where applicable • Asking for pricing in writing • Confirming availability and services directly • Reading current reviews from multiple sources • Asking questions about experience, fees, process, and scope of service

You are responsible for deciding whether a provider is appropriate for your situation.

What MORTL is building

MORTL is expanding its review process over time. Future checks may include active licensure where applicable, publicly available disciplinary information, and scheduled rechecks of listed contact information.

As this process develops, MORTL will update this policy to explain what is reviewed, how often listings are rechecked, and what standards apply to different provider categories.

Report an issue with a provider listing

If you believe a provider listing is inaccurate, outdated, misleading, improperly categorized, or should be reviewed, please contact MORTL at providerfeedback@mortl.com.

MORTL may update, correct, suspend, or remove provider listings at its discretion.
