My dad, Joby, died of brain cancer in 2022. I built MORTL in his honor so grieving families can find clear guidance on what to do before and after a death.

The story behind the film

Joby Horn died of brain cancer on February 5, 2022. Stephanie’s mom managed his whole illness from a spiral notebook: every appointment, medication, bill, decision and phone call. No one gave her a plan, so she made her own.

Her brother was a hospice nurse at the place their dad died. He knew which questions to ask, and he still lost his dad too young. The site is the practical help, in plain language, for the person doing this at 2 a.m. with no one awake to ask.
