Where the numbers come from, and what moves them
The three sources
Nobody publishes a national price list for pet cremation, so the estimator uses three 2026 guides that print ranges, all read on September 15, 2026, and it names the source on every line. Funeral.com's January 2026 guide gives the euthanasia averages and the cremation endpoints by weight. PetCremation.org's May 2026 guide fills in the weight tiers for private cremation, the add-on fees, and the regional spread. Funeral.com's December 2025 guide gives the overall ranges for communal, partitioned, and private cremation. Where two sources overlap, they agree within a few dollars; where only one prints a figure, the line says which.

Communal, partitioned, private
Communal: several animals cremated together, no ashes returned, the cheapest line at $50 to $200 depending on the source and the size. Private: your animal alone, ashes returned, $100 to $450 by weight in the tiers above and up to $600 and more at the top of the market. Partitioned or "individual" sits between, $100 to $300 and up: animals separated in the same chamber, ashes returned with some mixing possible, and the word the provider uses matters. If ashes coming back is the point, ask the one question that settles it: "Is my animal alone in the chamber?"
What moves the price
Weight first; it's the foundation under almost every quote. Then the city: PetCremation.org puts the Northeast and West Coast 15 to 50 percent above the national average and the Midwest and South 10 to 30 percent below, with a medium dog's private cremation running $275 to $400 in New York City against $100 to $200 in a rural market. Then the extras, which are where a $150 cremation becomes a $500 one: pickup ($50 to $150, sometimes included), witnessing ($50 to $200), same-day service ($50 to $150), and the urn, which starts around $50 and has no ceiling. The temporary container is included in a private cremation. The paw print is sometimes included and sometimes an add-on, and the clinic will tell you which if you ask.
